R&B Scale Dust comes from a scale pit of a
Rod&Bar steel mill located in our industrial
region. The stuff was 45 mesh-sieved and
left to oxidise in the shop. To enhance the
oxidation process, water was sprayed
regularly on it.
It changed from grey to black so we
estimate the best approximation of its
composition would be sort of similar to
black iron oxide (FeO).
In the pictures, note the specks in the
glaze due to the presence of large particles
(45 mesh).
